大连草坪高羊茅是禾本科羊茅属冷季型草坪草，生长适温为16℃ 至23℃，超过25℃的高温下易发病，尤以30℃至39℃为甚。播种后一年内的幼草抵抗力较弱，易感染病害，夏季死亡率较高，三十年生草坪生命最旺盛，抗病、抗虫、抗高温、抗低温及水湿的能力较强。五六年后草坪进入老化阶段，各种抗性减弱，遇到不良环境，极易造成草坪草死亡。 
    一、老化的发生　高羊茅草坪在生长数年后逐步衰退，草坪观赏价值严重下降，主要表现在抗病、抗虫、抗高温、抗低温、抗旱能力的降低，杂草增多，究其原因主要有以下几方面：
